Mancrush...again: Mark Buehrle
"It's just one of those things where you kind of appreciate and sit back and realize how hard it is to throw a no-hitter or a perfect game," Buehrle said. "Because you see today that I made some good pitches and they put them in play and got base hits off them. It's just frustrating."
Buehrle was perfect again, or at least through 5 innings (after which he sort of unraveled). But once he gets over that loss he'll start appreciating that he retired the first 17 batters he faced this game in a row. Adding that to his previous start (the perfect game) he retired an MLB record 45 straight batters in perfect fashion. (the previous record was 41 set by Jim Barr in '72) Despite the loss I think it is sufficient to say that Mr. Buehrle's pitching has been quite hella as of late.
