Hunt For October: AL Central
So maybe the playoff race in the AL central isn't exactly a classic but at least its close. With seven games to play the Tigers have a tenuous 2 game lead over the surging twins. Things come to a head tonight as the Twins come to Comerica park for a 4 game series:
Blackburn (11-11) vs Porcello (14-9) 7:05 PM
Duensing (5-1) vs Verlander (17-9) 7:05 PM
Pavano (13-11) vs Bonine (0-1) 7:05 PM
Baker (14-9) vs Robertson (2-2) 1:05 pm
The Tigers have been playing .500 ball for a while and the Twins have been playing outstanding ball for a month. So can Detroit hold on? Well the Tigers are incomplete: excellent pitching and defense with a very inconsistent offense (hence the .500 play). But their bats are much much better at home which makes me think they can get a split with Robertson and Bonine losing their bids. Which means that it will come down to the last series. The Tigers will close the regular season against the White Sox and have at least worked it out so they have Jackson, Porcello, and Verlander in that order (and they don't have to face Peavy again). Minnesota will close out with the Royals and will roll Liriano, Blackburn, and Duensing but will have to face Greinke one more time. Anything can happen...
"Both teams played hard...goodnight and godbless."

ReplyDeleteI know seriously, its a slow year in baseball when this is all there is to talk about in late September....hopefully the playoffs will be tight.
