What's the deal with Crabtree?
HA! Get it!? So August has come and gone and the only player from the 2009 draft to remain unsigned is Michael Crabtree. Crabtree, undoubtedly the best receiver in the draft, wants to be payed like he is...well...the best receiver in the draft. Of course instead of being the first drafted receiver he slipped to the tenth pick as Al Davis worked some of his draft day magic. And in that lies the problem....Crabtree wants to be payed like Darrius Heyward-Bey (5 years, $38.25 million $23.5 million guaranteed) whom he is better than at football. The Niners, however, want to pay him more along the lines of where he was drafted: between B.J. Raji (5 years, $28.5 million $18 million guaranteed) and Aaron Maybin (5 years, $25 million $15 million guaranteed). Hence the hold out for more total money and more money upfront. Now the only major knock on Crabtree heading into the draft was that he was a "Diva" with his "entourage" and whatnot, which I thought was dumb since he had never been in trouble for anything. But at this point, with the preseason basically behind us, he is seeming more than a little diva-ish. My guess? He caves in and signs this week, he can't afford to take a year off of football and become another Mike Williams.
"Both teams played hard...goodngiht and godbless."
