PTI posed the question last week, what is harder on opponents at Progressive Field, the bugs or the birds? The bugs, of course, brought the Yankees to their knees in Game 2 of the 2007 AL Division Series. They seemed to be the clear winner in the debate. Well that turned out to be bulletin board material for the birds last night, who sealed the deal for the Tribe against the Royals. A line drive off the bat of Shin-Soo Choo deflected off of a gull and away from Coco Crisp, allowing Mark DeRosa to score the winning run. I was at the game on Tuesday night. The field is about a mile from the lake, so there have always been gulls in view. But in the 15 years that I've been going to games at this ballpark, I have never seen anything like this. The gulls are not only congregating in the outfield like they did last night, but they are swooping within 5 feet of spectators. If they haven't done so already, I think that as of this morning, the Cleveland Indians need to address this issue, and do it publicly. My hypothesis is that with all of the empty seats, the stadium looks more like open water than ever.
